St. Marks biking trail opens in Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) – For those looking for more outdoor adventures, a new St. Marks Trail Extension is now open to the public here in Tallahassee.

City leaders held a ribbon cutting ceremony today to celebrate the new project that has been in the works for more than 20 years.

This new Stadium Enclave-Lake Elberta extension of the St. Marks Historic Railroad State Trail will provide a safe new way for people and cyclists to connect to parks and trails without having to compete with traffic.

“Its amazing that you can now ride from this campus, Florida State University, all the way to St Marks to the Gulf of Mexico without getting off of a bike trail. Now you can do it safely,” said Florida Parks Service Director, Eric Draper. “It’s a great way for people to see parts of Florida and to be more healthy. I think it’s going to bring people in from other places to Tallahassee.”

Project leaders are hoping to build a public park as an addition to this trail starting next summer.
